Stacking The Shelves [5]

I've realized that lately I haven't been in the mood to write as much, and I'm the type to set a point and say everything is going to change then. A perfect point to start writing more would be tomorrow, the first of the month/year.
But I get the feeling that won't be changing for another couple of weeks, but then again I am me so none of this might make sense in a few days when I find myself writing more than usual, although that's unlikely.
So basically my writing is going to change... soon.

Last week was Christmas, and I didn't get any books. Well any that I didn't buy myself.

Books bought:
Back To Future Masquerade (Blue Bloods, #2) The Fool's Girl Violins of Autumn

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday. What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where we share what we have been reading and what we plan to read this week.

Hey it is Monday and not only that but it's also the last day of the year. Tell me I'm not the only feeling like we just did this.

2012 Challenge Wrap Ups

Those Books I should Have Read challenge hosted by  Reading With Martinis, I wanted to read classics it didn't go too well. I got four out of the six, and as much as I'm sure I can get in two short ones by tomorrow it's probably better I don't.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde
Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe

Now the trouble I had with this challenge is that I didn't like any of the books published the first 5 years of my life.
The highest rated was a 3, but at least I tried them and now I know. I'd love to continue with the next five or three years but I think I'm going to pass this time.

1990 The Sun Dog by Stephen King
1991 The Awakening by L.J. Smith
1992 Lost Boys by Orson Scott Card
1993 Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton
1994 Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind

2012 Mount TBR Wrap Up

Seeing as how I've been complaining about this years challenges since October I didn't have any real intentions on writing up individual wrap up post, really they'd have been lucky to get one together. But I've figured I started them I might as well finish them or admit defeat.

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature in which bloggers get to showcase another one of their loves, music! The feature is hosted by Ginger over at GReads! but until further notice you can find it over at Kate’s Tales of Books and Bands.

Once again I've disappeared for a month, well I've disappeared from my regular music posting; but today's a great day to come back.
Merry Christmas and all that good stuff.
You know, peace on earth and good men named Will.
Whichever way you'd have it.

I realized yesterday that I can continue posting musicals and have a Christmas song.
Thank you Mr. Crosby.

Top Ten Books I Read in 2012

It hasn't really hit me yet that the year is pretty much over so I'm not completely sure what to say about it. I haven't even processed that it's Christmas Eve.
Is that bad? Christmas for me is usually like Charlie Brown's or the Grinch it gets me in the end.

Anyways 90 books read this year, 21 were audio but still, a lot to choose from.
I've actually eliminated my reviewed books since I already made them a top ten list a few weeks ago.

Lethal InheritanceLethal Inheritance by Tahlia Newland
Published October 10th 2012 by Catapult Press
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

If last night was real, Ariel should be dead. She’s not, but her mother has disappeared, there are bruises on her neck and the hideous beast in the photo looks frighteningly familiar.

You can’t send police into a tunnel that doesn’t exist after a villain they can’t see, so when shadow demons kidnap her mother, Ariel has to mount the rescue mission herself.
Hot on the trail, she enters a hidden layer of reality only to find that the demons are hunting her, and they feed on fear. Ariel must defeat them before they kill her and enslave her mother.
But how do you kill terrifying demons when your fear makes them stronger?

A quirky old guide teaches her how to locate and unleash her inner power, and while battling hallucinogenic mist, treacherous terrain, murderous earth spirits and self-doubt, she falls in love with Nick, a Warrior whose power is more than either of them can handle.

Ariel’s journey challenges her perception, tests her awareness and takes her deep into her heart and mind to confront, and ultimately transcend, her fear and anger.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday. What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where we share what we have been reading and what we plan to read this week.

Once upon a time the number of books I was currently reading wouldn't pass 2.
And that's counting school books. Right now I'm around 8. Not counting school books, seeing as how I'm not in school.
Goal for the next two months: Bring it back down to 1, or maybe 3.

Since my last update:

2013 Historical Fiction Reading Challenge

Since my No 2013 reading challenges promise pretty much flew out the window, I've decided to join another one.

And actually I wanted to join a historical fiction reading challenge last year but couldn't find one, apparently I completely missed this one.
Which turned out to be a good thing since I didn't read as many as I did last year.

I currently have eight historical fictions on my shelf so here's to 2013.

2013 Audiobook Challenge

This post can also be known as In Which I Prove I'm A Total Hypocrite.
As I race to finish this year's challenges I continue telling myself "Next year NO CHALLENGES!"
And then I go and sign up for the first one I see.

I'm with you, if I hadn't been given the DVD and CD I wouldn't remember it myself.

For this week I chose a musical I'm sure you all know.

Stacking the Shelves {4}

I've learned something last week, never schedule a review during a holiday. I am so behind on posting here, I just realized that I've only had eight post this month, I had more last November and I said I wasn't going to be posting.
That lesson is much better than the one I was afraid of learning which was: If you see The Hunger Games trilogy for 10 dollars don't take the weekend to think about it.
Especially since the sale only runs the weekend.

Timeless (Remembrance #3) - Review

Timeless by Michelle Madow
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Published November 14th 2012 by Dreamscape Publishing

IT'S A RACE AGAINST TIME.

In Remembrance, Lizzie and Drew changed the course of fate so they could be together.

In Vengeance, Chelsea set fate back on its original, deadly path.

Now, strange things keep happening to Lizzie. Things that are omens of darkness to come. A curse has doomed her to die an early death, just as she did in her past life. To make things worse, even if she can figure out who cast the curse, it's irreversible. There's only one option left for her to save herself. It's crazier than anything she's heard yet, and to do it, she'll need Drew and Chelsea's help.

Because to make things right, they must go back to when it all began.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday. What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where we share what we have been reading and what we plan to read this week.

I'm off this week so it would be a great chance to do lot of reading, and somewhere in there remember to appreciate work and school. Which of course reminds me of the teacher I had that discussion with, we decided that vacations are really given for that purpose: to make you appreciate having somewhere else to go and something to do.

The Newfoundland Vampire

The Newfoundland Vampire
The Newfoundland Vampire by Charles O"Keefe
Published April 12th 2012 by Penumbra Publishing

Like every other geek alive, Newfoundland native Joseph O’Reily secretly wants to be a superhero. At thirteen he fantasized about being a vampire, and ten years later he’s still fantasizing – but mostly about a beautiful redheaded woman who has eyes only for him. The one thing different about Joseph’s adult fantasy is that, amazingly, it comes true one night when he goes to a local university pub.
Cassandra Snow, literally the woman of his dreams, invites him to her place for an evening of personal pleasure. Of course he’s not going to say no. But when strange things start happening afterward, Joseph quickly learns that not all dreams should come true. Cassandra has plans for him – forever. And those plans don’t include daytime activities.
An animal lover and recent vegetarian, Joseph wrestles with all the weird changes he’s experiencing after his encounter with Cassandra. Eternal youth and amazing power come at a price that is perhaps higher than he can afford. The constant hunger for blood and the secrets Cassandra harbors test his resolve and his mental and physical limits. And then there’s the fact that a two-hundred-year-old vampire is after his head – literally. Joseph’s night vision improves dramatically, giving him a glimpse of the darker side of the world and the terrible evil of vampires who walk among humans. As he tries to balance his regular life with the new reality of his vampire existence, he is determined to hold onto his personal convictions and what he values most – his humanity.

Top Ten Books I NEED To Read

Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I've kind of come to the conclusion that I'm not one for reading books for reading challenges, actually I realized this sometime last year but I just didn't stop myself. Anyway since there's only a couple of months left to finish this years challenges, now would be the best time to get to those books.
And while yes I do want to read those books I can't help but look at the books that I really want to read and am looking forward to getting to.

It's Monday! What are You Reading?

It's Monday. What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where we share what we have been reading and what we plan to read this week.

I was told there was a book sale going on so I stopped by and all I found was Fifty Shades of Grey... I just felt like sharing that.
I didn't buy it, and I left a little disappointed that I didn't get to buy any books.

Tune In Tuesday - Tim Burton Double Feature

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature in which bloggers get to showcase another one of their loves, music! The feature is hosted by Ginger over at GReads! but until further notice you can find it over at Kate’s Tales of Books and Bands.

Continuing with my musical post -that is post about musicals- and seeing as how tomorrow is Halloween; blah, blah, blah (I'm sorry I don't think I've ever cared for the day, I was an odd child. I mainly liked dressing up because, well I'm one of those girls, any reason to put on a dress and sing I Feel Pretty. Not that I ever did or have... recently.)

Anyway with Halloween being tomorrow this is a good opportunity to share a song from this musical.
Seems appropriate to feature the "demon barber."

Saturday Snapshots [4]

For more Saturday Snapshots see Alyce’s blog At Home With Books.

I totally forgot about this, which kind of makes sense since I haven't done this for almost a month. I have no clue where I've been. Other than read-a-thoning, lets blame those.
And that's kind of today's excuse too, I decided that I was going to attempt to finish my book. I have 200 pages to read, which is pretty much the lenght of a short book, I'm not going to try and wonder what went wrong.

Anyway since Saturday is almost over and in some places it's already Sunday I'm gonna keep this short.

Quotable Quotes - Taylor Swift

I've had this one stuck in my head for a week now.

“You can write a book on how to ruin someone’s perfect day.”― Taylor Swift

Some people really can.

Got that from Taylor's song Tell Me Why from her Fearless album.

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature in which bloggers get to showcase another one of their loves, music! The feature is hosted by Ginger over at GReads! but until further notice you can find it over at Kate’s Tales of Books and Bands.

One night a while ago I couldn't sleep so I decided to name off musicals I've seen. You'd think that would put me to sleep but no.
I wasn't able to name them all but then I decided to feature them here and see how many I've seen.
I'll try to mix it up so it's not all musicals; I don't want anyone getting bored.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday. What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where we share what we have been reading and what we plan to read this week.

There was a read-a-thon this weekend, so I managed to get a few books off my list. I think my final page count was about 400.

Stacking the Shelves (3)

I hadn't realized how long it had been since I last went to a library, that when I recently went I was pretty much a kid in a candy store. Unfortunately I wasn't able to check any books out.

Then I went to the store on the day they happen to decide to reorganize the bookshelves, as much as I would have liked to be in the way, there was already some guy doing that.

Read-a-thon Hour 17 (And I'm Actually Still Going!)

I know right?! Although I did have that delay this morning so... whatever I'm still here!

I just finished my second book.  335 pages read.

I have no idea what I'm reading next. My main focus was the two I read and after that I was just gonna go with what I felt. But I have no idea what I'm feeling.
So either Tuck Everlasting (because it's right there) or Me and Orson Welles.

This will probably be my last update here, so I just wanted to thank everyone who commented cheering me on. And the host of the few mini challenges I joined, thanks for getting me away from the books for a while.

Read-a-thon Hour 14

Taking a quick dinner break, I started getting a little hungry around hour 12 maybe and small snacks would not cover it so, I'm actually eating now.

So far I've finished one book and am about halfway through my second. Hopefully I'll be done with that by hour 17.

Mid-Event Survey from Hour 13:
1) How are you doing? Sleepy? Are your eyes tired?
I'm actually doing great, I can't say why which is probably why I see myself crashing in a few hours.

Read-a-thon Hour 10

Not officially my hour ten since I had to go to work for a few hours there, but I'm back now, I've eaten and have the house to myself.

I think I'm good to go until, maybe hour 14 or 15.

But real quick how about a mini challenge:

2) tell us about what you like to use as bookmarks and why.

Dewey's Read-a-Thon

This is my third time participating in this read-a-thon. I started last April, totally missed last October, but I made it back in April. So yes, this is my first October.

The only real difference I can see is that this time around I'm done with my reading goal, which I guess means I won't be super excited when I finish a book and see that I'm one step closer.
Now I can be super excited about not only surpassing that goal but reading more than I did last year.

I've woken up early so that will guarantee me a few good hours. During the read-a-thon last April I had reasons to be upset and couldn't enjoy myself as much. April was a very bad month.

Top Ten Favorite Book Quotes

Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Because I love my quotes.
Looking back at the last time I picked 10 quotes I'm not sure how I managed, although it does make sense when I added like 3 from one book.

Let's hope I don't "cheat" this time.

I'm gonna miss that. Repeat performances are doubtful.
