The Light and Fallen - Review

The Light and Fallen (Chronicles of the Nephilim, #1)The Light and Fallen by Anna White
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Published March 27th 2012

Lucian isn't sure what to expect when he steps over the banister separating Heaven from Earth. He opens his eyes in a new body, one with no wings, no knowledge of the future, and no special powers.
All he remembers is his mission: to find a mysterious key. When he meets a human girl that he can't ignore he is forced, for the first time in eternity, to choose between duty and the pull of his heart.
The future hangs on his decision, but he's fallen into a world where nothing is just what it seems.

Dusty Reads [15]

Dusty Reads is a weekly meme hosted by Xpresso Reads, featuring a book that has been sitting unread on a home shelf for some time.

Little note, since I have't been living in my room near my books, I noticed the other day these books really are dusty.

Destined by Allison Kraft.

Top Ten Series I Haven't Finished

Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Looking though my past read books I'm surprised to see that there are a lot of series I never finished.

It's Monday! What are You Reading?

It's Monday. What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where we share what we have been reading and what we plan to read this week.

You know those weeks when you feel like all those books have piled up on you? That usually happens to me when all the books I'm on a waiting list for come in at the same time.

Saturday Snapshot [3]

For more Saturday Snapshots see Alyce’s blog At Home With Books.

Anyone in the Southern California area should know what happened yesterday, although no, I spoke with one person who didn't have a clue.
But those who weren't under a rock knew that the space shuttle landed.
It was bright, it was foggy and I'm pretty sure my camera could have been better set, but here they are:

Quotable Quotes - Judgement

Shortly after I posted my last quotable quote I went camping and was wrongly judged. And I know I shouldn't let some jerk's words hurt me. I even kept telling myself that. But they did, and they ended up ruining my weekend.
The day after I got home I couldn't even be around some people.

Tune In Tuesday - This Is Country Music

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly feature in which bloggers get to showcase another one of their loves, music! The feature is hosted by Ginger over at GReads! but until further notice you can find it over at Kate’s Tales of Books and Bands.

I knew I'd been somewhat absent from this blog for a while but I didn't realize how much until I noticed just now that since July I only posted one Tune in Tuesday post.
But I'm back now!
And just to be sure I'm picking songs for the next two posts too. Plus that usually motivates me to change my mind later.

Stacking the Shelves (2)

Since my last Stacking the Shelves post, it kind of hit me that I shouldn't be spending so much money on books.
Now this realization hits me every now and then, so chances are my next post will have twice as many books.

Angela's Coven - Review

Angela's Coven
Angela's Coven by Bruce Jenvey
Published October 21st 2011 by Museitup Publisghing
3.5 of 5 stars

Reggie Sinclair is an aging British rock star living in New York City who has just found out he is terminally ill. He also has a very dark secret: When he was still an undiscovered teenager, he sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for his great fame and success. As his life draws to an end, he prepares to face the inevitable until he stumbles upon a very enchanting, modern-day witch named Angela, and her untraditional coven.
Angela gradually introduces Reggie to her world of old school Witchcraft with its roots in alchemy and ‘natural chemistry’ dating to the Dark Ages. As their relationship grows, they devise a plan to break Reggie’s contract and save his soul.
This is a story of the struggle between good and evil with a cast of characters that ranges from guardian angels to young witches-in-training. Together, they have to come to terms with the uncertainties of love, loss, and life decisions to save Reggie from an unbearable eternity.

Saturday Snapshot (2)

For more Saturday Snapshots see Alyce’s blog At Home With Books.

I just finished reading (or listening to) Cleopatra's Moon this week so I thought I'd share pictures from the Cleopatra Exhibit at the California Science Center. I saw the billboard and knew I needed to go.

Into The Shadows - Review

Into the Shadows (Into the Shadows, #1)Into the Shadows by Karly Kirkpatrick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Paivi Anderson has it all - friends, a spot on the varsity basketball team, wonderful parents, and quite possibly, her first boyfriend. It was everything a freshman in high school could ask for.
Her perfect life begins to crumble when she discovers her name on a list distributed by a power-hungry presidential candidate. How could anyone think of Paivi as an Enemy of the State? Could it be because of her special powers? No one was supposed to know about them, but the mysterious messages in her tater tots say otherwise.
In INTO THE SHADOWS, Paivi quickly learns who her friends are and is forced into a reality she didn't see coming. This is the first book in the Into the Shadows Trilogy.

Labor Day Read-a-thon Wrap Up

Letters Inside Out button
You'd think with the amount of read-a-thons I join I'd have some sort of routine.

Read, read, challenge, update, read, update, challenge, read, read, wrap up.

There's probably a start up post either before or after that first "read."

But this weekend I pretty much blanked on any updates or challenges, but of course that means I got a lot of reading done.

Pages read: 231
Finished: The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde
Into the Shadows by Karly Kirkpatrick

Summer Reading Challenge

I can't believe summer is over. Although I can sort of accept it this year has been a bit odd.
I keep thinking back to April and think it was November.

I also can't believe we're a few months away from November.
It's the end of summer and also the end of the Summer Reading Challenge Kate at Kate's Book Club hosted.
And I'm happy to report that I kind of sort of completed it.
