The Meg Effect

In honor of Meg Cabot Day today I've decided to repost the "effect" Meg had on me throughout high school.
Originally posted June 27, 2012.

The Meg Effect, you know that after feeling a book will leave you when you finish it. Call it what you want, but in 9th grade I referred to it as the Meg Effect. Well the Meg Cabot Effect to be exact, mainly because it only ever occurred when I read her books.

Although looking back at that year everything I read was by her, except maybe 4 books.

But because of her books I have multiple, or at least plenty, journal entries going on and on about how her books are so great and how I couldn't stop thinking about them, and that I'll never ever find any other book to top it... until the next in the series is published that it.

Don't believe me?

Welder by Day, Dancer by Night + {Tune In Tuesday}

For today's Tune In post, I've decided to merge it with my Meg-a-Readers story for today.
Because it's not like I haven't been doing the same throughout the summer, by which I really mean twice.

This actually doesn't have much to do with Meg Cabot, it's more a story about me. But of course the story of me usually does involve her books.

Last year during our Meg-a-Readers event I mentioned that I've never seen the movie Flashdance but because of Meg Cabot I thought it would be pretty cool to be a welder by day and dancer by night. (Unfortunately I think I said that on Twitter and it has since disappeared.)
But I also said that it could have very much happened.

Ten Authors I Own The Most Books From

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

It's probably not even fair for me to do this list because with the number of Meg Cabot books I own every other book is like at zero. If I had shelves Meg would probably have two.

My Favorite Opening Lines In Meg Cabot Books

Meg Cabot making me ask questions since 2003, although technically I didn't start "questioning" until 2005 late 2004. Her openings might not be intense heart stoppers but they still get your attention by making you want to know what's going on.
I witnessed the kidnapping of Betty Ann Mulvaney.
(Teen Idol).
Who is Betty Ann Mulvaney? And why would you let her get kidnapped?

It was a miracle.
What was a miracle? Knowing that Insatiable is about a character that sees when someone is going to die you have to tie that in.

Of course, like I mentioned, since they rarely ever start that climatic the fact that I still think it's gonna go somewhere beyond Meena Harper making her train says a lot also.

Meg-a-Readers Week!

It's year 3 of the Meg-a-Readers!

And leave it to me to look at my phone the other night and start freaking out that tomorrow is the 28th and I had nothing for an opening post!
Then I looked at the time and realized it was midnight and I still had a whole day.

Branded - Review

Branded (Sinners, #1)Branded by Abi Ketner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fifty years ago The Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society.

To punish the guilty, he created the Hole, a place where sinners are branded according to their sins. Sinners are forced to live a less than human existence in deplorable conditions, under the watchful eye of guards who are ready to kill anyone who steps out of line.

Now, LUST wraps around my neck like thick, blue fingers, threatening to choke the life out of me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit, and the Hole is my new home.

Quotable Quotes - Branded

Branded has so many great quotes that it's hard picking favorites. Of course there's one that's practically the book's mantra I had to share it and I had to make something for it.

Author Interview: Natasha Larry

And we've reached the end of week one of this summer's author features with Natasha Larry. Before we conclude this week with Natasha's interview can I once again mention how I almost turned down the first book in the series when I got the review request?
I know right?!

Darwin's Children Books 1-3 Reviews

Can I share the story of how I almost turned down the first book in the series when I got the review request?
I know, right?

Darwin's Children was the second book I received to review for this blog. Not counting a short story which was my first.
Technically with that it would be my fourth, but I gave my first book the "pancake treatment" and threw all memory of it out, though the actual review is still in my archives.

Tune In Tuesday

For this week's Tune In I'm going to merge it with the Summer of Authors feature I have going this week (and every other week throughout the summer), and challenge myself to pick a few songs that I think go with this week's featured book/series Darwin's Children.
