A Healing Spirit - Book Review

A Healing Spirit (Riverview Series #2)A Healing Spirit by Melissa A. Hanson
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Published August 16th 2015 by mah

A freak ski accident brings nineteen-year old Mia Kinney within minutes of death. Hurt and scared, Mia is calmed by the southern drawl and clear green eyes of her rescuer.

Twenty-one year old Dylan Blackburn is one of the first Ski Patrol members on the scene. As his patient is airlifted to the local trauma center, he can’t shake her from his thoughts.

As Mia fights for her life, Dylan, is haunted by the blond hair beauty, and knows he needs to make sure she’s going to be okay.

With a troubled past Dylan has vowed never to completely open himself up to another girl, but Mia continues to knock down every wall he’s constructed. When his past arrives at his front door and threatens once again someone that he loves, will Dylan be able to save Mia yet again? Or will he be too late this time?

A story of love, friendship, and the determination to turn a horrible experience into something worthwhile.

"A Healing Spirit" is book 2 of the Riverview Series, however each is a standalone story.

Top Ten Quotes I Loved From Books I Read In The Past Year

I'm totally going to use this week's Top Ten to make up for, like a years worth of missed Quotable Quotes. From the looks of it I haven't posted any quotes since early May.

Seeing that I would post every other week I'm behind by maybe 14 quotes. So I'll give you ten now and owe you the four.

Licked by Brooke Blaine - Teaser + Giveaway

Licked by Brooke Blaine

Date of Publication: November 11, 2015

As the owner of Licked, an eclectic ice creamery and bar, Ryleigh Phillips doesn't have time for that love stuff. Serving up Nibble My Nuts sundaes and Drunken Sailor boozy shakes are as close to an orgasmic affair as she's had in months thanks to her expanding empire—until the night of her ten-year high school reunion.
When Ryleigh's crush, gorgeous ex-football god Cameron Mathis, comes streaking into her life (literally—streaking), she begins to wonder if she really can have it all.
Wouldn't it just figure that the moment you think life is perfect is when it falls spectacularly apart?
Enter Hunter Morgan, the contractor in charge of Licked's renovations. Devastatingly handsome, and a smartass to boot, he's got his eyes on Ryleigh from the moment he finds her passed out on his couch (yeah, that's a long story). There's just one tiny complication—he happens to be Cameron's best friend.
When the lines between relationships and friendships blur, and it's impossible to choose between two delicious flavors, what's a girl to do? Taste a sample of each? Or go out and get LICKED?

Humdrum 11/13

I woke up today, went back to sleep got out of bed a few hours later. Got online, not entirely sure what I did. Off line. Back online, trying to write.
Mainly spacing out.

That first sentence is basically a normal morning, since I finished with class.
Of the three guys who told me they're starting business and they might be able to use me; one probably thought I was overcharging him, the second called me this week to say he missed flirting with me (he's married with three kids and his "business" is currently still in his head, so why I haven't blocked his number yet I don't know.) And the third did give me a job, but never called me to finalize anything. Project is just sitting there.

Song(s) of the Moment [15]

This is a feature I started where I pick a song that represents the week, day or month; that fits with a moment I recently had. Or that's been on repeat.
Since very little happens to me on a weekly basis I only post every two weeks.

It still bugs me that I haven't bothered making a banner for this.

I was watching the movie Gentleman Prefer Blondes the other night and realized the blonde (Marilyn Monroe) might be the one getting the diamonds but the brunette (Jane Russel) is the one having the fun.

Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I Still Need to Watch

I have really sucked at keeping up with movies these last few years. I'm always saying it's like I woke up one day and just stopped genuinely caring.
About everything; not just movies.

When it comes to movies there have been so many (mainly book adaptions) that I would get excited for but never got the chance for one reason or another. Usually either because no one I know wants to go see them, when I mention going alone they feel obligated to go too so I say no because I don't want to force them (they will complain about it), or a lot of the time I just don't watch movies at home.

Why Grim Reapers? by Elizabeth Holloway - Guest Post + Giveaway

Why Grim Reapers?
By Elizabeth Holloway

Why Grim Reapers? It’s an interesting question. I mean, there are so many other supernatural creatures out there to write about. Why not write about shape-shifters, witches, or vampires? I have nothing against those other creatures. As a matter of fact, I’ve read and quite enjoyed books that feature them. Honestly, I didn’t really “choose” Grim Reapers so much as they chose me.

Letter to Me: Senior Year

“I always worried someone would notice me, and then when no one did, I felt lonely.”
― Curtis Sittenfeld

To Me Sept. 2007

The only real friends you've had in high school just ditched you.
You don't really know why, it just happened.

Sound familiar?

Sorry to say it's not the first time that it's happened. And by this point you're wondering if it is something you do. Or don't do.

Can't really understand why supposedly good friends just forget you. Like you never existed.
Sadly this time you'll end up really screwed up, not being able to truly trust anyone.

So you're starting your senior year as the "lonely loser."
You know you can't be, too many people know you now. No one cares but they still notice. They might care but it's not a group you can naturally fit into.

What's scary is that a part of you knew it would happen; just look back at some of your journal entries, whenever you talked about your senior year it would always lead to a mention of friends and end with you writing "If we're still friends."

Senior Year: Afterwards

Part: 4 How Sad.
Part 3: It's All One Big Mood Swing
Part 2: Why Bother?
Part 1: Senior Year 2007

This is the story of the first couple of months of my senior year in high school.
While definitely not a fascinating story, it's something that I would remember every September for years afterwards. Thankfully eight years later now it's all behind me and the only real reminder is that I am who I am today partially because of those few months.
My two main reasons for sharing this is because 1) It happened and 2) I've been wanting to share more of myself here.
This is going to be part journal entries from the time and part me now explaining everything (or at least trying to).

Clutch: A Novel by Lisa Becker - Excerpt + Giveaway

clutch: a novel is the laugh-out-loud, chick lit romance chronicling the dating misadventures of Caroline Johnson, a single purse designer who compares her unsuccessful romantic relationships to styles of handbags – the “Hobo” starving artist, the “Diaper Bag” single dad, the “Briefcase” intense businessman, etc. With her best friend, bar owner Mike by her side, the overly-accommodating Caroline drinks a lot of Chardonnay, puts her heart on the line, endures her share of unworthy suitors and finds the courage to discover the “Clutch” or someone she wants to hold onto.
