The Mother Road by Meghan Quinn - Book Review

The Mother RoadThe Mother Road by Meghan Quinn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Published January 12th 2016

Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.

It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.

What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paul’s know-it-all attitude and Porter’s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980’s RV.

Song of the Moment {Book Edition}

This is a feature I started where I pick a song that represents the week, day or month; that fits with a moment I recently had. Or that's been on repeat.
Since very little happens to me on a weekly basis I only post every two weeks.

Quotable Quotes - from The Mother Road

Today's quotes come from the book The Mother Road by Meghan Quinn (my review for it will be up Friday).
I have to say a lot of these quotes are from the end of the book, don't worry no spoilers, (it's a romance I don't think there can be spoilers) so it's the point in the story were the characters are knocking some sense into each other and the reader. Or having that moment of epiphany where they ask "What the hell!?"

Five Books I Really Love But Feel Like I Haven't Talked About

I don't know why I don't talk more about the books I love on here. To be fair I guess in the last year or so I've barely managed to talk about the books I'm reading in general. I wish I could review all the books I read, and especially the ones I love, on here but I also feel like some are better left unreviewed. At least on here, I'll probably post a quick "I LOVED it!" on Goodreads.

So, five (I've been having trouble making it to ten lately) books I love but haven't really talked about...

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I can always tell if I'm hungry while writing these posts because instead of saying "What are you reading?" I say "What are you eating?"
That does sound like an interesting post idea.
Well semi-interesting; why do people feel the need to post pictures of what they're eating?

I personally would rather know what you're reading.

To Do #10: Route 66

I haven't done one of these post since February 2014. The topic was Make A List of Things I Want To Do Before I'm 30; this was a week after I had turned 24 and I said:
The best I can plan it out is: if I turn 30 in six years I have three years to write it and three years to accomplish it.
That could totally work.
Now I just need to start thinking what to add to that list.

It's been two years and I haven't written anything! Can you imagine if I actually try to accomplish that list? If I actually make it?
I'll be running around January 2020, trying to get everything done. And, most likely, trying to figure out what I was thinking when I came up with the idea.

Song(s) of the Moment [3/15]

This is a feature I started where I pick a song that represents the week, day or month; that fits with a moment I recently had. Or that's been on repeat.
Since very little happens to me on a weekly basis I only post every two weeks.

The current song of the moment is quite bizarre. Because, much like last time's Haters, it randomly popped into my head as I was sleeping.
I know it sounds weird to say while I was sleeping but that's just how my brain works sometimes. I've woken up doing complicated math problems. And I suck at math. I never knew if it was right, or if it even made sense but I was throwing out numbers like a pro.

Thoughtfilled Thought: Where Does the Time Go or Procrastination

With the word procrastination in the title I'm going to let you guess how long it actually took me to write this post.
There is currently an Elvis movie on, not to mention one of the Narnia movies. It's grey out, and even though I know there is way too much I need to get done, I just can't.

And, really, all those things I need to get done? They've been piling up for about five months now.
Actually it's way longer than five months but it's been five months since I finished my class and had so much more free time to attempt to get them done.

It's probably silly even asking where the time goes, because I know where it's going, I watch it go often.

Spelled - Review

SpelledSpelled by Betsy Schow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Published June 2nd 2015 by Sourcebooks Fire

Fairy Tale Survival Rule #32: If you find yourself at the mercy of a wicked witch, sing a romantic ballad and wait for your Prince Charming to save the day.

Yeah, no thanks. Dorthea is completely princed out. Sure being the crown princess of Emerald has its perks—like Glenda Original ball gowns and Hans Christian Louboutin heels. But a forced marriage to the brooding prince Kato is so not what Dorthea had in mind for her enchanted future.
Talk about unhappily ever after.

Trying to fix her prince problem by wishing on a (cursed) star royally backfires, leaving the kingdom in chaos and her parents stuck in some place called "Kansas." Now it's up to Dorthea and her pixed off prince to find the mysterious Wizard of Oz and undo the curse...before it releases the wickedest witch of all and spells The End for the world of Story.

Quotable Quotes [3/10]

I'm pretty sure I've shared the Libba Bray quote on here before, but she's so great I think she deserves the repeat.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I've kind of slowed down on my reading this week. Even so, I keep looking at my books and thinking "Yeah I'll be done with you by the weekend."

That's probably one of my bad habits I get so determined with a book, I decide that most everything else can wait.
Then, of course, I feel bad for procrastinating.
And then I read some more.
I'll break that habit as soon as I finish this book.

New Items on Orimis

When I started my Books, Bags, Beads, and Boys post my main intention for the Bead department was to share things I've made. I never knew what my motive was with "Boys."
At the time I was trying to get pictures of all the necklaces I've made. (still trying that, even though now I don't even know why I wanted that.)

I finally made a banner!
(The fact that it took me almost a year is the reason that, as a designer, I have to charge by the project and not hour.)
