It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I was so happy in my last post two weeks ago, because I was reading so much. That has since stopped, and I'm ready to go back to whatever attitude I had at the time that had me reading more.

Clearly it was a much better method than whatever I was doing (or not doing) this past week or two.

Jonas needs Tate. He just doesn't know it yet.

Or at least, he doesn't want to admit it. Because there is no way Jonas Ashcroft is gay. He's a straight, carefree frat boy player, just like any good son of a conservative state senator. If only his struggle to convince everyone—especially himself—didn't leave him so miserable. No matter how many girls or bottles he drowns himself in, Jonas can neither escape nor accept who he is.

Enter Tate. He's smart, confident, and instantly sees right through Jonas's surly exterior. Sure, he's done things in life he's not proud of, but he knows who he is and what he wants. And what he wants is Jonas. As their easy friendship intensifies into something more, Tate introduces Jonas to a life he's never known. One filled with acceptance and sex and a love that terrifies and excites them both.

But some inner demons refuse to be shaken off so easily. When Jonas's old life barges in, he faces a shattering choice, one that could destroy everything he and Tate have fought so hard for. Sometimes love just isn't enough—and sometimes it's exactly what you need.

Top Ten All Time Favorite Movies

Another excuse for me to continue going on about old movies!
That's not true. I won't be going on. I've been trying for a while to write something that would have tied-in well with this list but haven't really been able to.

But a lot of these are old movies. There's a simplicity to them that always make me feel right at home. Which might be saying a lot since I'm usually home when watching.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I have been reading a lot more lately. And I have to say I've loved it. It just felt right; especially after everything that went through my mind during my slump a couple of months ago.

There is one difference though, I've been turning to non-fiction, which for me is usually a one in ten books type of thing. All last week I kept telling myself I need to read some fantasy, even pointing out some books on my shelf; but in the end I kept grabbing the non-fiction ones.

Glitter by Aprilynne Pike - Book Review

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Published October 25th 2016 by Random House Books for Young Readers

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Aprilynne Pike comes a truly original new novel—Breaking Bad meets Marie Antoinette in a near-future world where the residents of Versailles live like it’s the eighteenth century and an almost-queen turns to drug dealing to save her own life.

Outside the palace of Versailles, it’s modern day. Inside, the people dress, eat, and act like it’s the eighteenth century—with the added bonus of technology to make court life lavish, privileged, and frivolous. The palace has every indulgence, but for one pretty young thing, it’s about to become a very beautiful prison.
When Danica witnesses an act of murder by the young king, her mother makes a cruel power play . . . blackmailing the king into making Dani his queen. When she turns eighteen, Dani will marry the most ruthless and dangerous man of the court. She has six months to escape her terrifying destiny. Six months to raise enough money to disappear into the real world beyond the palace gates.
Her ticket out? Glitter. A drug so powerful that a tiny pinch mixed into a pot of rouge or lip gloss can make the wearer hopelessly addicted. Addicted to a drug Dani can sell for more money than she ever dreamed.
But in Versailles, secrets are impossible to keep. And the most dangerous secret—falling for a drug dealer outside the palace walls—is one risk she has to take.

Me & Counrty Music (and to some Extent Brad Paisley)

Much like in other posts where I've explained my love and journey for something (usually a book or author) in honor of the CMA Awards tonight I decided to share why I love country music.

This post was inspired by, believe it or not, a memory of something I tweeted maybe seven years ago. It was the night of the CMA Awards and I said something along the lines of how it commemorated my love for the genre.
Actually it was the anniversary of something else entirely.

First off how about some six degrees of separation: I am my mother's daughter (in case that one needed to be explained), my mom has a friend who knew the guy who has directed a few Brad Paisley music videos.

"Real World" Set Fantasies.

By which I mean fantasies that aren't your usual fantasies.
Obviously.

No magical lands, no wizards, no talking animals, no fairies or elves. Books set in our world where no one expects to find magic.
But stuff happens anyway.
