Song ofthe Moment [6/27]

Songs of the Moment is a bi-monthly feature I started where I pick a song that represents the week, day or month; that fits with a moment I recently had. Or that's been on repeat.

I have three songs today. Though it might turn into four if I let myself fall down the nostalgia rabbit hole.

Best Books I've Read In 2017 So Far

It's that time of year again, when I announce that I've yet to be wowed by a book. Then usually a week or so later I find that one book.
That probably won't be happing this time around, mainly because I'm in a bit of a slump and haven't cared to read much
Three weeks into my own reading challenge and I'm already wondering how long 'til I back down from it- I'm trying really hard not to let challenges stop me mainly in life but what am I if I let a little ten book summer challenge bring me down?

It's also a bit of a lie when I say I've yet to be wowed this year, I totally was, back in January and February. So it's been a while.
But it has happened. And fingers crossed that I make it through this current slump and it happens again.

Time For a Movie Night

aka In Defense of My Movie Night Picks.

It is a dream of mine to find someone to have weekly movie nights with. And I mean a go all out kind of night, if I can do a theme or even a simple tradition I will. (I've dressed up for both the Grease Sing-along and Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl; I'm an all out kind of girl.) As of now it's really just me and it's not so much of a 'movie night' but more like a "Hey a movie I like is going to be on" or a "My mood needs this right now" night. Or evening. Or day, if I'm lucky.

When I find that someone (or someones) there will probably be a lot of compromise because my go to movies are, well, musicals. Of the classic variety.

Even if it's not a musical, it will still probably be an old movie.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
June 27th 2017 by Delacorte Press

Lada Dracul has no allies. No throne. All she has is what she’s always had: herself. After failing to secure the Wallachian throne, Lada is out to punish anyone who dares to cross her blood-strewn path. Filled with a white-hot rage, she storms the countryside with her men, accompanied by her childhood friend Bogdan, terrorizing the land. But brute force isn’t getting Lada what she wants. And thinking of Mehmed brings little comfort to her thorny heart. There’s no time to wonder whether he still thinks about her, even loves her. She left him before he could leave her.

What Lada needs is her younger brother Radu’s subtlety and skill. But Mehmed has sent him to Constantinople—and it’s no diplomatic mission. Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. Torn between loyalties to faith, to the Ottomans, and to Mehmed, he knows he owes Lada nothing. If she dies, he could never forgive himself—but if he fails in Constantinople, will Mehmed ever forgive him?

As nations fall around them, the Dracul siblings must decide: what will they sacrifice to fulfill their destinies? Empires will topple, thrones will be won . . . and souls will be lost.

And I Darken (The Conqueror's Saga #1) by Kiersten White - Book Review

And I Darken (The Conqueror's Saga, #1)And I Darken by Kiersten White
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Published June 28th 2016 by Delacorte Press

No one expects a princess to be brutal. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets.

Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion.

But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point.

Top Ten Series I've Been Meaning To Start But Haven't

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature created by The Broke and the Bookish.

I have had a long time rule now that I wouldn't start any new series until I finished the ones I was in the middle of. That's for series with all the books already out.
Of course I suck at sticking to that rule and have started (and finished) a lot of series without even thinking about the one I started years ago.
I really do want to finish them, if I didn't I wouldn't give them a second thought.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I'm having trouble remembering if summer is a usual reading slump for me. A part of me feels like it might be.
Then another part thinks it's mainly my own fault because I've been starting more books than I've finished. I've also been in a bit of a state of "let's just sit here and do nothing."

Summer Bloggiesta

Bloggiesta Button 2

This is turning into a pattern for me this year (although no doubt it can be found in past years also) I just haven't wanted to. Sit down and write, that is. Thankfully I haven't fallen behind on anything, but I haven't been pretty present either. Not since April when I decided this would be my last year blogging. I decided then that I was going to give everything I had left but here we are.

Songs of the Moment [6/13]

Songs of the Moment is a bi-monthly feature I started where I pick a song that represents the week, day or month; that fits with a moment I recently had. Or that's been on repeat.

This week's songs are totally random. I was watching My Fair Lady last night, so naturally while watching I thought I should share some of it's songs. And I also remembered sharing at least one back in 2014. But for some reason while going to sleep songs from a different musical started playing in my head, and I'm pretty sure I've never shared those so...

It's Monday! What Are you Reading?

For the third (and technically last since I won't be blogging this time next year) year I'm doing the Summer Reading Challenge, (feel free to join me) which officially started Saturday. Unfortunately I still have, like, three books that I need to finish before I get started on my stack for the challenge.
Two days in I'm already behind. Off to a great start.

Anyway if you're interested you can check out the books I hope to be reading this summer at the link above. For now books I'm reading:
